is it that the issue being discussed is usually in printed in black and white, is also discussed prior to tryouts and then against parent/player meeting. more times than not the coaches will make it perfectly clear where they stand with missing practices, especially during school breaks. the problem lies with the parents and athletes that sit there and never say a word, take the spot on the team and then low and behold drop it on the coach by the way we go away every winter break (we will be back in a week) or parents pull kids out of school to go on vacation as playoffs arrive. funny this never happens on the boys side. and there in lies the problem - we want our daughters to get all the benefits and rewards that our sons get but we somehow hold our sons to a higher level of commitment to their sport, coach and teammates. why is that? and you wonder why people question the intent of title ix!

While I have my own strong feelings about this issue, I can not imagine being in the middle of this very controversial matter - like a coach. The problem is people are playing in the grey area. No one is willing to make it black and white. It is the dirty little secret. One coach is crazy to make his own policy. It's like jumping in front of a runaway freight train. This issue belongs with the Athletic Director and the school governing body to be decided and published after much debate and contemplation. If the school has their policy published, athletes and their parents can make a decision whether they want to come to that school and participate under that set of rules. No gray area. No bad feelings. I think schools athletic departments and coaches want to keep it in the grey area in order to fit their circumstances at that point in time and to further their agendas. By keeping it vague, schools and coaches get to have their cake and eat it too. That just hurst their constituents - the kids - by creating unnecessary stress. That is wrong. What we need is consistency. Both sides of this argument have strong ideals. AD's - it is time to step up and be counted. Where do you stand? Stop the insanity. Put it in ink for god sake!

Big game in League II Friday evening. Sachem North and Northport both undefeated. North looking for some respect against a Northport team that couldn't pass it's first test against Ward Melville. Northport swept the series convincingly last season. Who ya got?
